Pink Poker Run and Cane Burning Party
Saturday, June 15th 2013 is the date of our 4th annual "Pink Poker Run". (PPR) This event is a charity run designed to raise money for the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk for a cure. Motorcycles, "sports cars" and any other street legal rides are invited to participate in the Pink Poker Run .
At dusk we light a great big pile of grape vine canes (dead stalks we prune off in the winter) to sort of "Burn Breast Cancer to the Ground".
The 3 Day walk has 15 events or locations across the country. Each walker is required to raise at least $2300.00 to participate. Monies raised go towards Nancy G. Brinker's promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 2010 the Cleveland walk had over 900 walkers and raised $2.4 million. The Pink Poker Run is a fund raiser designed to help the team from Maize Valley make their goal.
The route will be pretty much the same as last two years with a few changes since we are starting and finishing the ride from Maize Valley. We head out and go South and East which takes us down towards Lisbon and beyond. We usually go about 100-125miles or so.
This year there will be a optional pancake breakfast and other goodies to eat before you head out.
At each stop, participants will draw a card for their poker hand. There are six stops so you get to throw one out sort of a wild card thing. It is very senic route, mostly follow rural state routes, nice road lots of unsual things to see. We are going to give you sort of a I spy with my little eye thang. Collect enough of them and trade them in for goodies too. Don't worry I ride so I ain't gonna expect you to take your eyes off the ribbon.
At Maize Valley, all participants can enjoy live music, and a delicious dinner of BBQ Chicken, Grilled Bratwursts, Macaroni Salad, Corn on the Cob, and Maize Valley's fresh bakery cookies. All included in the registration fee, and don't worry ask around, Maize Valley does really good food!
If you don't ride and just want to come hang out for the post ride Par-Tay with food and PLEASE do! We will ask for $15.00 but will include the mentioned items in paragraph above.
Winning hand prizes and wrap up to conclude approximatley 4:30pm. Music will continue to about 6:30 or so.
Live music starts up again about 7:30 and goes till about 9:30. You don't have to go home at 11:00, but ya can't stay here!
