Wine Tasting in Ohio

One of the big advantages of visiting an Ohio winery is you can taste or try out a wine before you buy it.

At Maize Valley we offer wine events & tasting Monday thru Saturday for $.25 for a 5/8 oz. sample. Our Red Raspberry, and our Port is $1.00.

Often times people make fun of the whole wine tasting thing with all the swirling and sniffing but there is something to it. By moving the wine around rapidly in the glass you release odor and flavor molocules into the air. A great deal of our taste sensation is derived from our sense of smell and this action aids in getting the full profile of the wine.

In most casual wine tastings people swallow the wine. During professional tastings however many people prefer to spit it into a "dump bucket" as they may have many wines to taste and lets just say their judgement can become clouded after a bit.

If you get a sample and you take a taste and don't like it at all do not be afraid to dump it out and try another one.

While we offer wine sampling every day (except Sunday) at  Maize Valley we must warn you that if you happen to hit us on a Friday or Saturday night it is a bit more difficult to accomodate a guided sample during our busy times in the evening. So if you would like to spend some time please arrive early to mid afternoon for best service.
